Killer Instinct: Definitive Edition Review

Killer Instinct has been released as a free to play game three years ago. Unfortunately, we missed in this edition content and the right technics. After that some changes happened. Now has the developer Iron Galaxy his hands on the game with the ultra-mega-combo-attacks. The now released Definitive Edition includes all until the release developed content and in addition to that some great surprises. This is a good reason to test the game once again. But is it better than before. Let’s find out.

Before we start we want to say that we only want to write here about the biggest changes. The game was reviewed many times before so that we want that you know only the important things. We do not want to

write here a review that is extremely long, because most of you know this game. We want to talk about how does it looks right now. Like we said before, you can get the complete package of the last three years in one edition that is called Definitive Edition. Beat-Em-Up fans can get excited to play with 26 different characters (some of them well known from other games), in 20 areas which has been totally revised especially for this collection. In addition to that you the soundtrack and the classic versions of Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 as a boni. You can get access to all of this by the clear and well designed main menu of the game. But that is not all. In addition to all this and the classic arcade and survival modes it is also possible to train a AI-Fighter to let him fight against your friends and fight with him in the characters’ own story lines to unlock tons of gimmicks like costumes. We have to confirm that there is also an option to buy AI-Coins which can be used to get stuff in the game. It is unfortunately a typical Pay-To-

Shortcut-situation. All owners of this new edition get also the new so called Shadow Lord mode. It seems very easy, because you just only have to stop a daemon that who wants to destroy the earth with the help of his shadowings. But there is more in it as it sounds.

We can happily confirm that this is one of the best champagnes that we played in a fighting game ever. This includes some mini-missions, not linear storylines, decisions you have to make, and their results that have some impact on the rewards you can get and even following fights you have to do. There are also pauses for the fighters that can be used tactically if you fight with more than on character. All in all we can say that there a high number of different elements that keep us constantly on the go. What we love is the also the high number of stuff you can collect in this game. Especially the so called Guardians are very important in this game. You can get reinforcements of certain properties as well as the opportunity to activate abilities if players equip a fighter with a guardian. For example you can activate the bat which helps you to restore your own health. This adds a great and interesting component into the fight against an AI that do not want to give up so quickly.

We wished they had added more than just text into the great made animations which you get for example to see if two characters meet before the fight starts. But we can confirm that your motivations is still high even if the game has some longer loading times because of the shadow lord and all the great surprises and his great difficulty level which is one for everybody.

We can confirm that the game has made a lot of steps forward after his release three years ago. The Definitive Edition looks much better, especially the 26 characters with their great animation. What we also like is that they updated the collision detection which works very well. Even if you did not hit the enemy perfectly it is hard to notice it especially if players are doing one of the extreme long combos. We love it that the 20 areas are varied designed and we noticed the developers’ love for details. We also like it that there are parts of the areas that can be destroyed. We have get an adrenaline kick because of the great action, the huge number of particle effects and the framerate of 60FPS and the great acoustics. This all helps that the game is a visual blockbuster for a beat-Em-Up-Game.

This game is made for everybody, even beginners will have a lot of fun with it. Because of that we can also confirm that the crossplay with Windows-10-PC users works very well. While our test we had any lags or other problems with the connection.

Everybody who had the time to wait for this edition of Killer Instinct has now the chance to get a great game. This game offers all content they released before with all boni and a very great package. You get 25 very different fighters, both classic Killer-Instinct-Games and a lot Off- and Online-Gameplay-Modes. In addition

to that you also get the great new Shadow Lord Mode. With its dynamic campaign, the decisions you can take and the huge number of content you can collect and the impressionable combat conditions you get a mode that we have never seen in a Beat-Em-Up-Game like this before. We love it that this game offers a huge number of optional helpers is made for pros but also for beginners. The areas explodes in a firework of effects and the game convinces us with a floating gameplay, movements and animations. We love the interactive backgrounds and the great made collision detection. This game needed a long time to get to this point, but it was worth to wait. We think that this game belongs now to the best beat-em-up games and a must have for fighting game fans and XBox One owners.
