New Monthly Release For Shroud Of The Avatar Is Now Live

Publisher Travian Games and Richard Garriott’s studio Portalarium have released the latest playable version of their fantasy multiplayer RPG Shroud of the Avatar: Forsaken Virtues to their backers and dedicated fan base on Steam Early Access. This new update brings a host of improvements and changes to the spiritual successor to the classic Ultima series ahead of its officially launch on March 27, 2018.

A free trial, offering players a comprehensive first look, is now available via direct download from the game’s official website.

With the update, named Release 51, players can find the following:

  • The addition of skill tree specializations allowing experienced players to focus their efforts on one or two skill trees to unlock new features and expand the power of existing skills.This allows for completely new play styles.
  • Additionally, any specialization that reaches a mastery level (skill level 80) will unlock an additional glyph for every skill in the tree. In all, more than 100 new skill features were added for the specialization system and more will come in future releases.
  • Ongoing improvements to the performance and frame rate throughout the game thanks to upgrading to the latest version of Unity (2017.3).
  • The combat mechanics have also seen a large number of changes and bug fixes, including a rework of armour set bonus, more interesting behaviour for creatures and balance adjustments to all AoE spells, stat buffs and bludgeon weapons.
  • Additional side quests have been added to the story as well as general balance, conversation additions and unique NPC art.
  • Dozens of other improvements have been made to improve balance, polish, and performance throughout the game.

As a fantasy multiplayer RPG, Shroud of the Avatar blends together many of the key features that made the Ultima series popular. This includes wide-reaching freedom to explore a living, breathing fantasy world enriched by a player-driven crafting and economic system and an advancement path where players are confronted with ethical choices based on Virtues. The game features an engaging storyline written in collaboration with celebrated fantasy author Tracy Hickman (Dragonlance).
