Plantronics attacks once again the industry with their latest product, the RIG 600. In addition to that, they have also released some other headsets at the same time. Because of that you can get simple ‘entry-models’, but also High-End-Headsets and also some PSVR-Headsets. The Analog-Stereo-Headset RIG 600 was one of the first they have released. You can get it for a price of 79.90 Euro. Thanks to Plantronics we have the opportunity to test it how good it is in the daily use.

What we like is the design of the RIG 600. This headset is very simple but great designed. The matt black plastic, the black upholstery with the perforated synthetic leather and the discreet golden ornaments, the headset looking so good, that you even can wear it on the street without looking very uncool. Plantronics relinquish like many other Headset-Manufacturers on the typical gaming look. This great. The RIG 600 is analog headset and rather usable as an allrounder.

Let’s talk about how comfortable the headset is. There are not many bad things to say about it. The round circumaural pads are very comfortable and thanks to the perforated cladding great ventilated. We can say the same about the padded headband.

What we also like is that the headsets earcups are rotatable. This is good, because it supports the comfort. The weight of the headset is ‘ok’. What we are scared about is the adjustable headband. We thing that players with a bigger head could have some problems with it. But what we noticed very quickly is, that people that wearing glasses should pay attention. After wearing the headset for a longer time with glasses, the pressure has get a little bit to strong.

The RIG 600 is made to use it for the PC, consoles and mobile devices. You can connect the headset about the 3.5 mm jack. Plantronics added to the box a 1,5 m long cable with a microphone and a control panel. The also added a Y-switch cable to connect the headset to your console and the PC. In addition to that they also added into the box a 1,3 m long cable which includes a mic in the control panel to use the headset for your mobile devices. We wished the PC cable would be a little bit longer. We thing that the cable could be too short for people that have their PCs under the table and connect the headset on the backside. The cables are very thin and only sheathed with plastic instead of a textile-material. This is not so nice but acceptable in this price-class.

The great sound is made by the 40 mm drivers with a frequency response of 20-20,000 Hz and an impedance of 32 ohms. The RIG 600 ofer because of that a fantastic stereosound. The bases are very powerful. The middle and highs are also great balanced to the base-sound. That means, that even if you hear many sounds at the same time, the general sound  does not lose his balance and transparency. Yes, it is not a audiophile sound like in a studio, but the overall impression is very positive. What we also like is, that it does not matter for what you are using the headset for. The great level of the sound does not change. It doesn’t matter if you play games, listen to music or watch movies. The RIG 600 is a great allrounder. Since the end of 2017 you can get the updated version of the RIG 600. This one is called Plantronics RIG 600 Dolby Atmos Edition and includes for a bit higher price a Prepaid-Code for Dolby Atmsos for Windows 10 and Xbox Live. This gives the headset a fantastic push and make the experience even better. According to the producer, Dolby Atmos creates an amazing headphone experience with breathtaking, moving audio that flows above and around you. “You’ll feel like you’re inside the action as sound comes alive with richness and depth, and seems to move in three-dimensional space. Immersive and emotive, Dolby Atmos is sound you can feel— sound that creates a powerfully moving entertainment experience.”  Technically there are no differences between the two headsets. But like we said before, Dolby Atmos gives the headset a great push for better sounds. We tested the headset with Star Wars Battlefront II, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Battlefield 1 and Overwatch and could hear the difference from the first glance.

The indirect mic with the noise cancelling technology is fantastic. We wished, it would be possible to remove the mic, but this is just a matter of taste. Everybody who will use the mic in the game’s Voice-Chat or for Teamspeak will be very happy. The transmission quality has a great quality and is on a high level.

For the great and low peice of 79,90 Euro (89,90 Euro for the Plantronics RIG 600 Dolby Atmos Edition) Plantronics offers a fantastic Stereo-Headset which can be used by the 3,5-mm-jack. Great is, that the developer includes all necessary cables in the box, too. The Headset is very comfortable. Only players with a big head and people that are wearing glasses could have some problems. Der Sound is not like in the upper class, but transparent, strong and great balanced. Because of this we can confirm, that the RIG 600 is a great allrounder and not only made for games. You can use it also for music and movies. We can say, that everybody, who is looking for a great allrounder for a great price, take the RIG 600. We also recommend to you to take the Dolby Atmos Edition. The sounds are much greater and pushes the immersion. Great done Plantronics .
