The First Person Thriller Virginia Drops Character Trailer

In preparation for the global release on September 22, 505 Games and Variable State today released a new character trailer for VIRGINIA, the interactive mystery, launching on Sony PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC and Apple macOS via Steam.

.

The latest in a series of videos teasing the game’s mysteries, the new character trailer introduces special agent Anne Tarver, the game’s protagonist, who players will guide as they solve the riddle of VIRGINIA:

.

.

Anne Tarver: As a newly minted FBI graduate, Anne’s life is forever changed after she arrives at Kingdom, VA, a secluded rural idyll, to investigate her first case; the mysterious disappearance of local boy, Lucas Fairfax. As your search progresses, it becomes apparent that sinister forces are at play – forces that will test Anne’s judgement, her morality and her very perception of what is real.

.

But the missing Fairfax boy is far from the sole focus of Anne’s detective work. Your new partner, FBI veteran Maria Halperin, has roused Tarver’s suspicions. And as the investigation deepens, so too does your mistrust toward your fellow agent.

.

This new trailer invites a glimpse into sumptuous countryside of Burgess County, VA – VIRGINIA’s setting – revealing the striking contrast between its natural beauty and an unsettling darkness which lies beneath.

.

About VIRGINIA: Directed by seasoned game creators Jonathan Burroughs and Terry Kenny, VIRGINIA takes a striking, unconventional approach to videogame storytelling, by bringing cinematic editing – the fundamental language of film and TV – into the context of a real time game experience. Techniques such as jump cuts, match cuts, dissolves and montages, which are commonplace in motion pictures, are rarely used in games outside of cutscenes. VIRGINIA treads a different path, expanding the conventions of first person adventure games, by seamlessly weaving the fabric of cinema directly into its gameplay.

.

VIRGINIA’s cinematic inspirations extend to its genre-bending story. VIRGINIA’s drama evokes the ambiguous storytelling of David Lynch, the unforgettable characters of Silence of the Lambs and the striking art direction of Dario Argento. VIRGINIA rides a wave of renewed interest in science fiction and horror shows of the 1990s, sitting amongst recently-returned classics such as Twin Peaks and The X-Files and enthusiastically-received new arrivals such as the critically acclaimed Stranger Things.

.

A bold experiment in interactive storytelling, VIRGINIA offers mystery and drama unlike anything seen in games before.

.

VIRGINIA will be released via digital download on September 22 for PS4 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC/Apple macOS via Steam.
