Thrustmaster – T150 Force Feedback Ferrari Edition Wheel Review

t150_ferrari_main_5We have the great luck to test Thrustmaster’s T150 Force Feedback Ferrari Edition Wheel which can be used for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and the PC. Unfortunately, normally you have to pay a lot of money to get a really good wheel that also works on more than one platform. And if user want one, they want that the wheel is robust finished and has a great and powerful Force Feedback. That means that great wheels are limited and the prices are very high. Not many people have the opportunity to pay more than 400 or 500 € to get the latest one. But Thrustmaster has seen the potentials in this market. They have released the T150 wheel for only less than 200 € / £169.99 in two versions. The normal one (with blue parts) and the Ferrari Edition with red parts and the Ferrari logo as an emblem in the middle of the wheel. We want to find out if it’s worth your money?

.

Thrustmaster delivers the T150 Ferrari-Edition and the normal one in a Box which includes the wheel with the base and a 2-Pedal-Set (accelerator pedal and brake pedal). The power cord and the USB cable are securely connected to the base. Users just only have to connect the pedals to the base by using the pedal’s cable. That means, plug in the power-cable, connect the wheel with your PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 3 and have some fun.

We do not have to say that you have to fix the wheel at a table. At the first moment the fixture looks a little bit shaky, but once you have mounted it on the table with the screw, it sits firmly and can not move also through tough wrangling from its place.

.

t150_ferrari_main_2If you have the whole set in your hands for the first time, you will notice, that the base, wheels and the pedals have a great finish. The red/blue rubber coating of this 28-cm large wheel is a bit strange at the first glance but it do not looks like it will not wear out quickly. What we like is that the shift paddles are made of steel. We also like the clicking points and the design of them. They lying comfortably in our fingers. We also like that this wheel has all PlayStation-buttons like the DualShock 4. We also like that they are easily to accessible. This buttons include the triggers, shoulder-buttons, a D-pad and an option-button, the new share-button and the PS-button, too. On the right side of the base you can find a PS3-PS4 switch button. Like we said before, you can use this wheel for the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 4.

.

t150_ferrari_main_6Unfortunately, there is also the other side of the coin. We noticed, that the pedals are made full of plastic. We think that even if the pedals are very light, they will never lose the grip to the floor, which means that they never slip away. What we also like is that if users have the money they can also connect the T3PA 3-Pedal-Add-on or the T3PA-PRO. We also noticed that it is possible to connect the TH8A-gear shifter to this wheel. If you would buy the T150, the 3-Pedal-Add-on and the gear-shifter you would unfortunately pay the same price as you would buy one of the more expensive models.

.

ThrustmasterT150_DriverWhat we like is that after you connect the wheel to your PlayStation 4/PlayStation 3 you are able to use it immediately. Like we said before, we love it that you can use this wheel in addition to the PS4 and PS3 for your PC, too. The only thing that you have to do is to download and install the driver which you can find on the official homepage. The software has all setting options that you need to calibrate and set the wheel as you like. It is also possible to calibrate the T150’s rotation angle which is adjustable from 270° to 1080°. This is not very useful for every game, but we like the idea and fans for example of track simulations will love this feature. It is also possible to set the effect of the wheel’s Force Feedback and to update the software if you need to.

.

t150_ferrari_main_4Unfortunately, there is not possible to set profiles in this software but we think that this is just a matter of time after the software will be updated. We think that the wheel is doing a great job after you have adjusted the settings. It could be, that in games like Project CARS the wheel will be recognized as the T300 but this happens because there is no profile for this wheel until now. What we like is that this false detection has no effects on the wheel. We could use the wheel in games like DriveClub or F1 2015 immediately.

.

We noticed directly the wheel’s Mixed belt-pulley. The Wheel offers a powerful Force Feedback with good resistance and a very limited room for maneuver it back into the middle position. This is one of the advantages of this type of this power unit. What we like is that this wheel is very precise because of the optical reading with a 12-bit resolution.  We also like that this wheel running very smooth.

.

Speedlink_KudosZ9_Award_longAll-in-all, Thrustmaster offers with the T150 a really great product in this price-class. We think that especially PS3 and PS4 players will love this wheel, because they are not using this type of hardware very often and do not want to spend 500 € for a good one.

We also can add that this is very good wheel that includes a great Force-Feedback especially for beginners. We think that not everyone can spend 400 or 500 € for a good wheel and that the T150 is a solid alternative for less than 200 € and scores with a great price-performance ratio. The handlebars and the base are solid made and because of the belt-pulley precise steering is possible. The usability for the PC is a pleasant bonus thanks to the drivers. And that is the reason we want to give Thrustmaster jadoRendr’s great price-performance ratio award for their T150. We think that this is a great product especially for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 owners.
