We have the great luck to test Ubisofts latest blockbuster Far Cry: Primal for you. This game is the newest part of the well known franchise. FC Primal takes plays a in an era long before and let us fight against mammoths, saber-toothed tigers and feuding clans. Has Ubisoft released a game that includes a lot of fun in an unusual setting? Let’s find out.

We wished for a long time that one developer releases a game that takes place in a setting like Far Cry Primal. And we found out that Far Cry Primal is a bigger adventure at it looks like at the first glance. Ubisoft released a game that combines a great setting in primeval times packed with action and adventures.
.
On the one hand, the latest Far Cry game has not a lot differences in contrast to predecessor game Far Cry 4. Once again players play as a newcomer in an unknown world and get their main and side missions from different, mostly crazy characters. Players also have to conquer warehouses, craft new equipment and have to collect countless items which are distributed on the Map again. It’s nothing new, but on the other hand, this is Far Cry and what fans like about the game franchise. Ubisoft shipped elements of the previous game into this one. For example, enemies in the camps call for reinforcements when players get discovered but this time they use a big horn instead of an alarm system. Once again players using a piton to climb cliffs and have to unlock the map by taking specific locations.

Like we said before, this is what fans like about this franchise. But of course not everything in Primal is just like in the previous games. We think that the Stone Age atmosphere is a highlight of this game. The world is beautifully designed. Players will find lush meadows mixed with barren steppes, snowy mountains and also idyllic seascapes. We love it. This world is populated on the one hand with Wenjas rivaling clans, on the other hand by a large fauna: saber-toothed tiger, tapir, badgers, Wild boars and more animals known from the stone age wilderness. The protagonist Takkar is a hunter. This allows the player to use from time to time the top of our arrows or our speers against enemies or animals. What we also like is that fire plays a greater role in this game again. We love it that we can use a burning lobe or corresponding arrows to burn the Flora and the fur of our enemies.
.
We do not hunt prehistoric animals just for fun. Players have to do it to expanded their crafting system. Countless animals, plants and other sources let us use them to get a bigger ammo pouches, provide us with new weapons, also allows us to customize new arrows for the bow and much more. All stuff has an induced run through frequent use expiration date. That means that the crafting system is a have to do. For the first time in the series you still have to craft in the world for supplies even if you have actually already built everything what the crafting menu allows to. Players also have to use their stone-age weapons also against human enemies. Without MGs, players have to use melee attacks. You can choose between weak and slow or fast and strong attacks. You also can use the bow and arrows for combat. What we love is that the system works very well especially if you like it better than the classic shot battles from the previous games. We think that it is a matter of taste but a great change. Unfortunately, we think that there are still sometimes too huge waves of enemies for a sparsely populated map with people from the Stone Age.
.
But players do not have to fight the whole time. You also have to explore the world that is actually full of collectibles as mysterious handprints, hidden areas, inventories bags, special animals and much more. This sounds not very attractive for some players but we think that could probably keep players once again busy for several weeks. What we like is that there are a lot of side missions that let us, for example, hunt special animals, to escort members of our clan or defend territories against attacking enemies. Ubisoft includes in this game again the well known ‘drug-induced special missions’ from the previous games, in which players slip into a mammoth, fly in the air as a owl or fight as a super-warrior against ghostly figures. As a reward for these and many other actions we get a hand of items, on the other hand also experience points which players can use in the simple, but significantly larger built skill trees. Thanks to them, players can improve their values and learn special abilities. Players can get also more health, or can learn how to see collectibles on the mini-map, improve the effect of certain consumption items or learn to ride mammoth and other animals.
.
What we like is that the main figure Takkar is a friend of all animals. Not only you can use them to ride on them, but also tame and call for animals. This friends attacking enemies for us and are especially very helpful if we fight against large number of enemy. Even a faithful owl is one of Takars friends. When players call them, they can take control on them and are able to spot and mark enemies and animals from lofty heights. The expansion of our Wenja village is a much less interesting aspect of the game. For this we only need to bring a number of specific resources to the different expansion stations. After that, players can see huts been created. In another update step you can see how they get decorated. It is also possible to get new residents by completing sidequests. As a reward players get new missions and new skills.
.
The expansion of the village is directly connected to the history of the game. Like we sad before, you play the hunter Takkar. After a terrible incident with a saber-toothed tiger we find ourself in the world of Oros. We also find out that our Wenja communities is spread over the whole country and is almost exterminated. To change this we get together with the resolute Sayla. Our main mission is to gradurate new Wenjas village members. Between them, there are also some special members that have some major missions for us. It is important that the game do not get boring. Against this, Ubisoft included a charcter called Ull. He is the leader of a rival clan who makes our life difficult. We think that this is not the bet story we have seen in a game, but we love how great it is presented to us. What we also like is that all characters consistently talk in a modified version of the original Indo-Germanic language. To be sure that the player understand what the characters talking about, everything is subtitled.
.
.
The game looks fantastic. But not only the look, also the sounds are great. We also used our Logitech G633 Artemis Spectrum 7.1 Surround Gaming-Headset that has played the sounds really great. For more about the Headset take a look at jadoRendr’s REVIEW or take a look at the official homepage HERE.
.
We think that Far Cry: Primal will not win a price for innovative gameplay, because a lot of elements been taking from the previous games or been well adapted. There just only a few differences like the combat system. Unfortunately, these are only ‘optical changes’. What we love is that the game’s crafting system has a sense and it makes a lot of fun. We also like that the wildlife that been much better integrated into the gameplay as in the previous games. The PC-Version of the game looks much better than the game on the consoles thanks to much better lightning- and shadow-effects, greater textures, a nice framerate and a lot more of improvements. Players can also determine many elements themselves to customize the appearance of the game perfectly to their own computer. We think that the game uses well-known gameplay elements of this series. That means that both, real Far Cry Fans, and also new players of this franchise will have a lot of fun with this game. We are very happy that the new Far Cry takes place in the Stone Age. Short: This game is a must have.
