RAGE 2 – Meet The Factions: River Hogs

The River Hogs rule over the Sekreto Wetlands with an iron fist and massive junkyard mechs. These masters of the swamps are just one of the many dangers you’ll face in the chaotic open world of RAGE 2. Take a look at the extended rogues’ gallery in the new “Everything Vs. Me” trailer and learn about the River Hogs and their origins below.

River Hogs live by a simple creed: take what you want and live life to the its fullest. “Which in practice means complete hedonism and indulgence,” says Loke Wallmo, Senior Narrative Designer. “Sex, food, booze, music and thrills are what they live and fight for.” But don’t let this carefree, debauched exterior fool you, Wallmo warns. If you underestimate them as backwater idiots, you’ll get a nasty surprise when you encounter cunning Hogs armed with sophisticated and lethal gear.

Gear like the Junk Mek, a massive, heavily armored exosuit with numerous dangerous armaments, like flamethrowers, rocket launchers and heavy machine guns. When combating a Junk Mek, you’ll have to constantly be on your toes, making steady use of Dash to get behind the mech and aim for its weak points. The Hogs also make use of large shields, relying on the extra armor to protect them as they get in close and use their bulk and power for bashing.

Life as a River Hog makes more sense when you realize where they come from. “The River Hogs are an amalgamation of the Scorchers and the Jackal clan [from the first RAGE], with strong biker gang inspirations,” explains Wallmo. “Despite having been allies during the Authority Wars, the Scorchers and the Jackals fought each other bitterly during the infamous post-war conflict known as the Western Derby. This blood feud continued for years. Meanwhile, the Ecopods had transformed the Wasteland and created the vast Sekreto Wetlands. During the Abadon Mutie uprising, the two diminished gangs took refuge from the fighting in the Wetlands, joining forces for survival, and thus the River Hogs were born.”

.

Unlike some of the other factions – like the Immortal Shrouded and the Goon Squad – the River Hogs do not use convoys to move their goods about the world. Instead, you might catch them patrolling in their airboats and monster trucks, using smaller crews to transport goods in order to mitigate risk of losing a large haul.

.

Recently the River Hogs have expanded beyond the borders of the Sekreto Wetlands and moved into other territories, especially the dense forests of the northern Wilds, where their skills as hunters make them fierce competition,” says Wallmo.
