When gamers thinking about gaming there is one thing many people would like to have: a mechanical keyboards. The Trust GXT 865 keyboard is definitely a cheap entry into the world of this kind of keyboards. But is the price-performance-ratio as good as it sounds? Let’s find out.

The GXT 865 is very simple designed. The complete keyboards is totally black up to the moment you plug it in and the light-show begins. We are big fans of such kind of lightning on the keyboard, but user who do not like it can simply turn it of. This is a standard feature you can find on many keyboards with LED-lights and we like it that we can find it here, too.

The equipment of this keyboard is not overwhelming at the first glance:

• Quick responding linear mechanical switches that last up to 50 million keystrokes
• 7 rainbow wave color modes with adjustable brightness
• Advanced anti-ghosting with N-key rollover.
• Special gaming mode to disable the Windows key
• 11 direct access media keys
• Anti-slip rubber feet
• Cable channel to optimize cable management

But there is more inside as it seems. Especially if you take a look at the processing of the ASTA which looks very good. The keys are black and are placed on an anthracite colored background plate which is made out of metal. There is an imprinted Trust logo above of the number pad. There are no extravagances, no separate media buttons or something special. A simple appearance is rather rare in the industry of gaming accessories. Because of that we like it how simple Trust designed this keyboard. What we also like is the design of the bottom of the keyboard. Trust integrated here a keycap puller which is even fastened. A great small feature that we miss especially on high end keyboards. In addition, the Trust GXT 865 also has a cable channel on the bottom. You can decide whether the cable should leave the keyboard: In the middle of the keyboard or rather left or right. This is very cool especially for users who love a clean desk. You can connect the keyboard to your PC via USB. The cable is 1.80 meters long which gives you a kind of freedom.

Unfortunately, what we miss on this keyboard is a feedback of the keys when we are pushing them. For this they would have to include much better switches into it and this would result in a much higher price that you have to pay to get the ASTA keyboard. That also means that you have to push each key you use precisely. We wish Trust will put their focus on it by designing their next modell. On the other side, many mechanical keyboards are often very loud if you are typing. The keystrokes on the Trust GXT 865 are slightly insulated and therefore very quieter compared to other keyboards of this type what we like, too.

We already told you that Trust GXT 865 did not add separate medien-key. Instead of this they integrated this funktions on the at the top of the keyboard. By using the FN-key with the F-keys you can for example start your music, the calculator or controls the volume. This looks great but is not a novelty. What we also like very much is, that the Windows key can be locked and the lighting control allows you to select a gamer mode for the lights. This is very important especially for gamers.

What we like very much is, that we do not have to install any software to control the lights. Because of so many test we have a lot of different software of this kind so that we are happy that Trust waived. You can control the active mode by using the scrlk-key. You can choose between seven different light-modes like for example breathing, raindrops and simple static lighting. The light can be dimmed using the FN key in conjunction with the arrow keys.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to change the colors of each key separately. The S-key stays in the color green and the B-key will always shine in blue. We think that this feature is not so important like everybody else things. If you are honest with yourself, how often do you look on your keyboard in the time you are in the middle of a game.

We think that the Trust GXT 865 is a fantastic allrounder and a fantastic entry into the world of mechanical keyboards. The reason is, that we have here a great price-performance-ratio. What we like is the simple control of the lights and how quiet this keyboard is. On the other hand, we wished user would not have to push each key very precisely so that it works. There are some great features for gamers. Yes, you can find them on other keyboards, too, but not in this quality for this price. This is not the longest review we have wrote compared to our other reviews. But there is not much to say. Trust made a great job and we can say, that the Trust GXT 865 ASTA is definitely a good choice for people who wants to enter the world of mechanical keyboards. It is a simple keyboard that offers all the funktions you need.
