Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection Review

It looks like the upcoming last and 4th part of the Uncharted series coming with ‘Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End’. Unfortunately, we have a little bit time to say ‘goodbye’ to Nathan until the game will be released in march 2016. Everybody who wants to use the time can now enjoy the first three parts as a remastered version for the PlayStation 4.  We want to take a look on this PlayStation 3 games that get a makeover to see if they really looking better now.

They also remastered the Metal Gear Solid games and released them as the Metal Gear Solid  HD Collection. The original PlayStation 3 versions of the Uncharted games existed people with great graphics. This action-adventures took the PlayStation technically to the limit. Naughty Dog have managed to increase the look and gameplay with every new part of this series they have released. And that is the reason why we noticed the biggest graphical differences between the first Uncharted game, that was released in 2007, and the new remastered version. We also noticed that because of the new character models like Drake and the others and the upgraded graphics, the first part of the series is now on the same level like the third one. We can confirm that they put a lot of work in the second part, too.

UNDC_SCREENS02_1443111207What we like is that they increased the frame-rate, set-in high resolution textures and they improved the lightning effects of the games, which also puts them into a higher graphical level. We like that the games are now running in 60 frames per second. Unfortunately, there are sometimes some Pop-Ups that interfere in the treasure hunt. We can confirm that the distance of view is much longer than before. We also noticed the better looking effects like smoother shadows, the great looking lightings and the more realistic look of water. We can say that the much higher antialiasing gives the whole graphical update a last special touch.

Uncharted_2_UNDC_Warzone_Demo_Chloe_Helicopter_1436528249We think that the use of motion blur is in most times a matter of taste. We like it that Bluepoint Games gives us the freedom to turn it on or off or to choose how strong we want this effect in the game. We also like that they give us the freedom about the audio-settings. You can choose the Language and the subtitles separately. In addition to that you can choose what kind of audio exit you use, headphones, the TV’s speakers or a cinema system. It is also possible to configure the speakers’ position of your home cinema system to get the best sound experience.

.

UNDC_SCREENS39_1443111244Not only Bluepoint Games has improved the graphics. They also optimized the game’s controls. We noticed this very quickly in the first minutes of playing the first part of Uncharted. It is now much better to play and to aim on enemies, because all action are now going faster and are more precise.

This is not the first game, but like another remakes this series has now the photo mode, too, which allows to use some filters and frame-options like in other games. We think that you can find in this game series a lot of great spots to use the photo mode for some great images.

.

UNDC_SCREENS24_1443111233The original 2nd and 3rd part of this game series included a multiplayer mode. Unfortunately, the remastered games hasn’t a multiplayerpart like the originals. On the other hand, all owners of this collection get a beta-key for the Online-Battle mode for the upcoming adventure of Nathan Drake, Uncharted 4. We think that this is not so bad, because the great fascination of Uncharted was always because of its great campaign with the great cinematic performances, the exciting stories and the believable characters. They also cut out the 3D-Functions. The original 3rd part, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception that was released for the PlayStation 3, supported the stereoscopic 3D display. It isn’t bad that they cut this function out. Since the trend has going back we completely can understand the renunciation of a 3D support.

Uncharted_Nathan_Drake_jadoRendr-Award_long_01Uncharted is one of our favorite gaming series, especially the singleplayer part. The great Indiana Jones Flair, the exciting adventures of Nathan Drake with its great successful tempo changes, the cinematic performance, varied locations, the believable and sympathetic characters and the fantastic storytelling. We are happy that Bluepoint Games did a great job with the remake of the Uncharted series. The Nathan Drake Collection shines now in a whole new light. We think that the PSVita version Uncharted: Golden Abyss should be also a part of this collection. We believe that everyone who has missed the series should get it right now.

We are convinced that it is the right time to get the series. This is a collection of some first class blockbuster action games. Not only because of the improved controls, the great stories, the fantastic gameplay, but also because of the increased frame-rates, the great looking high resolution textures and improved lightning effects, that the game now running in 60 frames per second,  the longer distance of view, the better looking Effects, the wonderful locations and the much higher antialiasing gives the whole series a fantastic look. We think that Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection is one of the best remakes we have seen and played in the last time. And that is the reason why the jadoRendr award for ‘Best Remastered Games’ goes to Sony Computer Entertainment, Bluepoint Games and Naughty Dog for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
