The french developer Kylotonn Racing Games have give their latest game of the WRC series a complete overhaul after a not quite good start of WRC 5. We noticed very quickly that they have listened to the community to build a much better WRC 6. This game includes Super Special Stages, a Split-Screen-Mode and a much better look. But is this enough to be the next big hit in the Rally-Genre? Let’s find out.
.
.
There been some major features of the previous games we had to criticize like the bad graphics, the missing atmosphere and Split-Screen-Mode. Unfortunately, we have to confirm that we are not the only one that have seen this so. Especially the community had a lot frustration to let it out into the direction of the developer. Great feature we want to confirm at this point is, that the developers included a Split-Screen-Mode to chill with friend on the couch and to play together. We tested this Mode, too, and can confirm that we had a lot of fun with it. But what did the developer with the game’s graphics.
.
Even the game director Alain Jarniou knows that the graphics of the previous game was not good enough. He confirmed that they had to reduce it, so that the game could still run on the possibilities of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. We can confirm, that they through this concept away. You can order WRC 6 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and the PC. And we noticed very quickly that the developers focused on that platforms. More detailed vehicles, a clearly identifiable damage model, based on the original designed tracks with all visual and noticeable ground irregularities and different ground procurements, fantastic Light and particle effects. All this adds a great atmosphere into WRC 6 that we missed in the games before. Unfortunately, we have to say that this game is still not a graphical killer like the XBox One flagship Forza Horizon 3, but offers a nearly realistic and great presentation of what happens in Rally-Races. Unfortunately, we have to confirm that it seems like the spectators been placed arbitrarily. We think that their low details and their movements has not the same quality as the rest of the game. But on the other hand we have to say that this is a point the is nearly unnecessary. We had no time to enjoy the environment. We had to focus on the race. Otherwise it can happen quickly that you crash into a fence or end up in the ditch. The tracks are very challenging and need your attention through the whole race.
.
.
And if we are talking about the game’s tracks we have to say in the same sentence, that the developers also updated them because of the fans. We know that anybody wants to drive for hours the same track. And this is the reason the developers took the best parts of it so that you only need four up to ten minutes for a race. But we can confirm that the tracks are very varied. Players have the opportunity to drive with full speed through Narrow and wide passages, over potholes and to pass other harassment. The only help you have is to focus yourself and the comments you get from your passenger. What we love is that the so called Pacenotes are made by the racing driver and technical consultant Sébastien Chardonnet who also drove the most of them by himself. Unfortunately, we have to confirm that this Pacenotes are very inaccurate from time time. It happened not once that we crashed and stood still but the passenger kept talking. On the other hand we have to say that we love the varied of the game’s tracks. It is a huge difference if you drive on sand, gravel or even ice. Each track feels different and need his own style of driving on it. It is very important the you keep your eyes on the track on concentrate on how you drive. A crash can happen anytime. It is enough to brake at the wrong moment, which for example means ‘too late’, and you crash into a ditch. In addition to that you get a time penalty. It is enough to hit a pothole to hard for one time and you can feel immediately that you for example broke the car’s axle or that it was not good for your tires. That also means that you have to invest more time to repair the car after the rece. We love it that also Rally newcomer will have their fun with the game and can reach the finish line in an acceptable time because of huge number of driving aids, but you need a long time to master the cars and the tracks. And this is exactly what we was looking for.
.
.
What we also love about the game is that it is possible for example to drive with Sébastien Ogier’s VW Polo R WRC on each track. But in addition to that you can choose also one of the cars of the FIA World Championship 2016. Thanks to the great license have the opportunity to drive an all 14 tracks, choose between all known cars, teams and drivers. But the real deal is the game’s career-mode. The first step is to configure a driver and to choose a team. After that you have to fight your way through the Junior WRC class and the WRC 2 class up until you reach the highest ‘class of the kings’. We love it that the game’s motto is ‘Learning by doing’. At the beginning you get not so powerful cars to get a feeling for the game’s tracks and the controls. After you get a feeling of being good enough you can also mess yourself against other players in the game’s multiplayer-mode or drive against a friend who sits next to you on the couch. Fans have fight for a Split-Screen-Mode and won. We tested it for a while and had a lot of fun. We are convinced that more games should bring us back the old good time in which we made a small party with friends, have eat some Pizza and had some beer to enjoy a game with them thanks to the Split-Screen-Mode. If you think that was it and there are nothing new that beats the previous game, you are wrong. New and a great feature are the 11 Super Special Stages. These are very challenging sections of different track such as the armor plate at the Baumholder camp. But this is only an example. We love it that the designers modeled the tracks as good as possible so that they are as much real as is can be. Great is also that the developers included this tracks in their full length.
.
Yes, we wanted a great new Rally-Game that offers us as much as we wanted and especially what the community screamed for. We think that the developers of WRC 6 made a great job. Unfortunately we have to say that the biggest competitor Codemasters and their Simulation DiRT Rally offers a little more graphical details and the handling is a little bit much better. But we also think that if the developers will keep this level in the development and they can improve the subtleties in the next game, they will have huge chances to release with WRC 7 the best Rally-Simulation ever. We think that you can buy this game without thinking to much about especially if you like it that this game is more like a arcade one and especially if you like that this game includes all drivers, cars and tracks of the FIA-Championships. And if you have the budget for a wheel you will quickly notice how much fun you can have with this game. You will enjoy much more the tracks from the beginning on. We think you should give WRC 6 and the developers of Kylotonn Racing Games a chance to be a part of your racing game collection.
