Forza 7 will not only inspire new Forza player with a game that includes more than 700 cars. This time you can play Forza 7 on the PC, too. In this test we want to find out if this theory works or if turn 10 missed the target.

We played a lot of previous Forza games. This games helped us to find the love for great racing games. In addition to that, Forza helped us to be prepared for such hardcore-racing-games like Project Cars 2 or Assetto Corsa. The reason we tell this is that we noticed that Forza wants to inspire beginners racing games, keep enthusiasts playing for weeks because of great and exciting challenges and even offer simulations-fans an alternative to the hardcore simulations with various tuning options and sim-options.

That means that the developer Turn 10 works constantly on a racing game that offers something for everybody. And Forza Motorsport 7 will top its previous games. The game will offer 700 cars, and complete new weather-system, new tracks, HDR- and 4K-Support. And it will also be available for a complete new group of people, the PC-Players, after there been only a small free to play version of Forza 6. This test shows, that the developers did many things right. But there a few things we have to talk about like for example the loot-boxes.

Forza fans will notice very quickly, that there are a lot changes happened in the Forza 7 singleplayer. In Forza 6 you have to challenge a lot of championships. Each of that included four up to six races. You started in the small class until you can race with extremely fast prototypes at the end of the game. It was really hard to keep the game playing because it get a little bit boring especially if you had to race on the same track a few times. In addition to that you could get a little bit variation by playing some showcase-events. In this event you could for example drive against The Stig known from Top Gear or drive the legendary Les-Mans-Duell between the Ferrari and Ford. Unfortunately, this events did not help you in the main career.

What we like about Forza 7 is that they included all this special events into one career-mode. This mode includes six huge championships. Each of that includes nearly up to 15 events. It belongs to me, with which event I want to start. It is necessary to drive a minimum number of events to unlock the next championship. It is possible to reach the end of the campaign after a playtime of 25 hours, but it takes a lot longer if you play all events.

You will find different challenges in the events. Great is the variation. In the very first championship you have the choice between historic cup with US muscle cars built in the 60s, a truck racing series, a duel against Ken Block in the Ford Focus Gymkhana, a limousine bowling, a Grand Prix in which you can choose any available car and six other near similarly events.

On the first view it seems like there are no differences between this mode and the career-mode of the previous game. But the true is, that this overhaulin career is much more dynamic, more varied and because of this much better.

Forza Motorsport looks for outsiders much more sluggish compared to Forza Horizon with its open world. But Turn 10 did once again a great job. They want that the races on the tracks are very variable and filled with life. The reason for that is, the developers want to keep your motivation high. Another motivation are the stuff you can unlock.

At the beginning of the game you only have your avatar and a view on 700 cars you can unlock by playing. Forza is because of the high number of rewards and upgrades since years a so called ‘beginner friendly’ alternative to the known sim-racing-games like for example Project Cars 2. Each step is rewarded with a small unlock. You collect money, raise your level and unlock new classes of car.

Forza is also well known for his great working avatar-system called Drivatar. I can individualize my avatar with new closes. You get new cars and goodies by raising your level. For this you have to win races. You can also buy new cars in the overview or you choose the fastest way. You can use your Loot-boxes. This boxes including vehicles, outfits and mods. Don’t worry, it is possible to unlock everything in this game by playing it.

We think that Forza Motorsport 7 is a fantastic racing game. It is possible to choose the difficulty level before you start a race. Sim-Fans can turn off all driving support systems like the ABS, the ideal line and the rewind function. But this does not push the game into the simulation genre but it is very challenging to drive without the help of the supporting systems. Beginner can choose if they want to play the game more in the arcade or more in the simulation style. But we think it does not matter. We had a lot of fun with all of that.

What we also love is that each vehicle class has it own style of driving. You can feel the power of  1969 Dodge Charger, but a Subaru BRZ FE for example drives on a dry track like on rails. We also like the vehicles collision boxes. It can be dangerous if you drive with the Brabham BT24 Formula-1-Car. Its wheels are free and it could happen that you hit another car with them. Each car can be tuned, parts can be changed or you can the characteristics of the car. It is also possible to load tunes from other online players.

Everyone who has not enough can start the game’s multiplayer. The game offers some quick-matches at the time of the release. The connection to the servers been very stable at the time of our tests. There will be some great leagues for players that want to play the game for a longer time.

What we like is that the game includes 32 tracks that are very variable and to push the huge number of vehicles to their limits. Unfortunately, we wished they would include more new track. 26 of the 32 tracks are the same like in the previous game. Fictitious tracks like for example in the Swiss Alps show how fun such fictitious courses can be. But the view new tracks are fantastic. The track in Dubai is a shining example. We wished the game would have more of them. There are two things that pushes the excitement forward: The AU and the weather. Let’s start with the new feature. Forza 7 has as the first game in this series a dynamic weather system and a changing time of the day. That means that it could happen that you start a race in the best shining weather and you have finish it in a storm. This sounds very easy but it helps that the races are extremely exciting even if you are the first place in the middle of the race.

Turn 10 included in Forza 7 their Drivatar-System like in the previous games of this series. The theory is, that the style of the driving of our AI-drivers we race against with are taking by from the XBox App. That means that our enemies drive like your Xbox friends. That does not mean that it is easy to pass them. You will be forced to use the Sims and Tuning-Configurations on the highest difficulty-level to win a race.

Unfortunately, there are a few things in the game, we wished they would be better. We liked more the menu of the previous game. We also wished, they would include greater soundtrack. Forza 6 looked like a love letter to the motorsport-culture. The game had a epic soundtrack, the voices of the guys from Top Gear and much beautiful video-sequences. But on the other side we have to say, even if we liked the menu of the previous game more, this one is more structured.

We can confirm, that Forza 7 looks fantastic, even if you just play it on the Xbox One without HDR. If you play the game in the highest possible graphic-solutions, you will see a bombastic and beautiful light atmosphere. Especially the models of the cars are fantastic. We wished the surroundings like tribunes and landscapes would be more detailed. Forza 6 looked great, but Forza 7 get the sugar on the cake.

Long talk short: Forza Motorsport 7 is one of the best games in his genre. Everybody, who has an Xbox and like to drive with the best cars in the world has to buy this game. We have to be sure, if would like to play a race-simulation, you have to keep your eye on other games. But Forza 7 includes many things which help that sim fans will have a lot of fun with this game, too. Well done Turn 10, well done!
