We had a lot of fun with the newest game of the great Gears of War series. And this is the reason why we do not want to spoiler anything and we want only to focus in this review on stuff that shows you, why you should not miss Gears of War 4.

The well known Lancer weapon belongs to this series like air you need to breath. And yes, it is back in Gears of War 4and celebrates his brutal comeback. But before we go on, we want to tell you something about the story before GOW 4 (Gears of War 4), because many things happened after the end of Gears of War 3.

GOW 4’s story starts 25 years later after the happenings of the previous game. The Locust are destroyed and humanity can now live in freedom on the planet Sera. But there is a new government that control the surrounding cities. Unfortunately there are cracks in the planet’s surface that causes monster storms that destroy everything that crosses their way.

But this are not the only things humanity has to worry about. A small group splits up from them because they think that the government goes into the right direction. This so called Outsiders live in the wasteland that has been created by the storms and the weapon that destroyed the enemy in the previous game. They get the resources they need by raiding villages. This is the part we meet our new heroes James Dominic Fenix, Del Walker and Kait Diaz. And this is also the time we stop to talk about the story

because we do not want to spoiler anything. What we can say is that our heroes are on a special mission which is also the tutorial of this game. We have to fight so called DeeBees which are mechanical soldiers. While we are playing our mission we have to fight getting stronger enemies. Thanks to this mission we learn how to play the game so that beginners will also get to know all tactics they need to succeed. We love to confirm that GOW 4 is playable in co-op up to two players. We also love it that the developers did not change the tactical gameplay. That means that it was and still is a cover-shooter full packed with action. Players have to go from cover to cover, aim and shoot on enemies by pressing different buttons. Old cover-shooter fans will quickly remember how to play the game. The developers added a new melee attack. It is now possible to pull an enemy over the cover to us to kill him with our knife. This all works very well because of the great controls. What we also love is that it is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the analogue sticks.

What GOW fans could miss are the not existing splashing blood and the walking above of tons of divided bodys. Instat of this we get now not again with Testosterone loaded stereotypical soldiers. We are playing now with normal characters. Some says that if you take a closer look on the main character JD will find some similarities to the well known character Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. We love it that the new characters have a lot of humor so that it happens from time to time that we laughing out loud. We love it that we get a believable friendship to see. A great new feature in this series.But let’s talk about the blood thing. This changes after you get the first time attacked by the swarm which are disgusting monsters. They remind us more on the enemies from the previous games.

At the beginning it is not important for us to ask why they are attacking us and why they kidnapping people. They bleed and we can cut the into pieces with the Lancer. And yes, we had a lot of fun to fight them, too. Like we said it above, we do not want to spoiler too much so we have to stop talking about right here. What we can confirm is that GOW 4 has a huge number of different enemies in this part of the series, more than the previous games had. Because of this the fights are much more varied than before. We also can say that because of the bright luminous weak points on the enemies’ bodies we can concentrate our fire on this to kill them much easier. Because of this and the high number of different enemies the gameplay is very varied.

We can also confirm that there are a good number of different weapons. Because of this and the time we played, it was much easier to kill enemies later in the game. We also love the so called Action-Set-Pieces the developers added into GOW 4. This are parts of the game you will definitely remember. Once again we have to say that we do not want to spoiler something. This is the reason we just only want to tell about one of them. This one is for example the ride on a bike through a forest. But this isn’t everything. In addition to that you have to …. NOOOO….Sorry….We think you should get your own experience with it. But we can confirm that scenes like this are well designed and are a great varied to the normal levels. Everytime we thought that it could be boring if we keep on shooting the game surprised us with a great sequence, a funny talk between the characters or one of the Action-Set-Pieces.

There are also parts in the game we have to fight against the huge storms. This parts of the game looking graphicly fantastic. Players get great effects like dark clouds, flashing lightnings and moving objects to see. In addition to that we can confirm that the great and powerful surround sounds and the great graphics are the reason why the fights in the wind are a fantastic experience for everybody. It can happen that you will not hit the enemy so good as in the rest of the game. This depends to the strength of the wind which also increases the immersion. It is also harder to move in the strong wind. Not only we have this problems, our enemies, too. In addition to that there are also some funny and creative ways to kill the enemies.

Another variation in the game is the integration of the Horde-Mode. This a  small parts in which we have to keep our position with the help of fences and guns against stronger getting enemies. Another feature taking from the multiplayer into the singleplayer is the larger Horde 3.0 Mode. This mode has enough space for up

to four players but empty slots can be filled with bots. We can confirm that the Horde-Mode is the favorite mode of many GOW fans. Everybody, that tries it once will notice quickly, why it is so good.

You have to beat one wave of enemies after another. Each wave is stronger than the one before. Good teamwork and how you use your resources is very important to succeed. It is important to finish Horde-Matches as good as possible to get as much experience points as you can so that your character can reach a new level. In addition to that you get credits which you need to unlock new maps, new player-models, weapon skins or mutators as boni. Yes, there is another alternative. Owners can also get credits for money, but we think that players that playing the game regularly will have enough credits to get the maps. What we like is that the boni you bye are not

only available in the Horde-Mode. They also working for normal Death Matches. We can also destroy maps we do not like to get some Scrap. You can use this built your own maps. We love it that this game offers a lot in the multiplayer.

We think that even players and fans of multiplayer-modes should give the single player a chance. We love the firework of effects that explodes in this game. We also love the great lighting effects especially in darker parts. If we have to criticize something than that the game only runs in 1080p/ 30 FPS but you can play the multiplayer mode

in 1080p/ 60 FPS.  But we can say that this is only a black sandstone at the most beautiful beach in the world. That means it’s nothing we are really sad about it.

Like you can read above, the new GOW is a masterpiece in the series. We love the new team, how the characters work together and talk to each other. We love the spectacular and well designed Action-Set-Pieces. The new Gears of War is for the next generation of gamers. Yes, there been some changes made but we think that even full Gears of War fan will love them. We can not wait until we can jump into the next adventure. Unfortunately, it will take a time until they will release the next chapter. Until it happens we will enjoy the Horde 3.0 Mode. We are convinced that the developers did a fantastic job. Players will enjoy the approved gameplay mechanics that have now some great small additions. Great is that the developers did not lost things that make this game into a unforgettable experiance. That means that players can enjoy intense battles with the use of covers, varied enemy types, splashing fluids and great boss fights. Because of the great written dialogs we get the feeling of beeing a part of the team. We think that the fourth part of the series is because of the freat singleplayer, the Co-Op-Mode, the fantastic Horde 3.0 mode, his huge Online-Part a successful successor and a spectacular new beginning for this series. A must have for every XBox One Owner.
